Plan to come early and spend the day at the Ohio Outdoor Quilt Festival. You will be able to see over 400 quilts hanging on century old buildings. You can enjoy a light lunch under the trees while admiring the quilts and watching the crowds. Or you can choose from the menu at our food stand where we have inexpensive lunches featuring hearty elk barbeque, elk bratwurst or hot dogs.
All visitors will have a ballot to vote for their favorites as they wander from building to building viewing the quilts. If you are a quilter you may enjoy the fabric bargains in our boutique, or the unique quilting kits and quilted jackets that we offer. The gift shop in the barn offers quilts, elk-themed items along with decorations and collectables with a country style.
The farm business is raising champion elk. You are invited to take a wagon ride into the fields where you will first be able to see elk cows and their young calves. Some of these amazing animals may approach the wagon to eat from your hand. From there the ride continues down the country road to other pastures, where you will see magnificent bull elk growing huge antler. The farm has been owned by the same family since 1896 and one of its members will be your guide on this tour.
If you are a quilter, we encourage you to display some of your own handiwork. Quilts at the 2007 festival found their way to the farm from eight states in addition to Ohio. Our youngest exhibitor was 10 years old and the oldest was 93. You may offer quilts for sale or just bring them for the enjoyment of others. (See additional details on the page of prize winners.)
The Ohio Outdoor Quilt Festival is not a juried show. Because space is not limited, we have the advantage of showing quilts of every type, style, quality and age. The show has a vitality that can only come from displaying the vibrant colors of a 10 year-old’s first quilt beside the sophisticated artistry of a quilter whose work has toured nationally. Some of the quilts are extremely traditional while some are clearly experimental. Many quilts are newly completed and some have been retired after years of dedicated service. Not limited to admiring the craftsmanship of experts, the Ohio Outdoor Quilt Festival also strives to celebrate the love of quilting in all its myriad forms.
